OASIS Alliance Membership Guidelines
1. Overview
OASIS (Open-Source Alliance for Social Innovation & Sustainability) is committed to harnessing the power of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) to drive positive and scalable impact in the citizen sector. OASIS fosters innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development by enabling organisations to bridge technological gaps and build long-term capacity through open technologies.
2. Mission
- To address systemic technological gaps and capacity limitations in the impact sector through the adoption of FOSS.
- To enable organisations to achieve technological self-sufficiency and better focus on their social missions.
- To build an interconnected ecosystem of relevant FOSS innovations for the impact sector.
3. Membership
Alliance membership is designed for individuals and organisations committed to FOSS and social innovation. Members contribute through technology services, consultancy, product development, implementation, and capacity-building activities such as training and workshops. Membership is also open to philanthropic institutions seeking to strengthen technological capacity within their beneficiary organisations.
4. Eligibility Criteria
- All primary products, systems, and solutions deployed for nonprofits under OASIS must be FOSS-based.
- Members must comply with the framework and guiding principles established by OASIS.
5. Benefits of Alliance Membership
- Access to a network of mission-aligned organisations and professionals.
- New opportunities for service providers to support impact sector organisations.
- Participation in innovative technology initiatives that generate measurable social impact.
6. Membership Guidelines
(1) Commitment to Open Standards and FOSS-First Approach
- Members must actively promote and support open-source technologies.
- Members must provide necessary documentation and APIs for seamless integration.
- Only FOSS tools may be promoted or used within OASIS-supported initiatives.
(2) Ethical and Sustainable Practices
- Members should leverage existing FOSS solutions wherever feasible.
- Members must promote interoperability and avoid vendor lock-in.
- Strong emphasis must be placed on data privacy and security.
(3) Price Transparency
- OASIS will maintain a publicly accessible pricing reference framework.
- Common FOSS services will be categorised for transparency.
- Members retain pricing autonomy while aligning with transparency standards.
(4) Service Quality and Functionality Standards
- Members must ensure that solutions remain functional and scalable.
- Major pricing or service changes must be formally communicated to OASIS.
(5) Active Participation and Capacity Building
- Participation in OASIS workshops, forums, and initiatives is expected.
- Members are encouraged to support documentation and knowledge-sharing efforts.
- Members should contribute to training and ecosystem development.
- Risk identification and mitigation planning must be supported.
7. Termination of Membership
OASIS reserves the right to terminate membership in cases of policy violation or consistent failure to comply with alliance standards and mission objectives.
8. Engagement Guidelines for the Impact Sector
- Prioritise FOSS-first solutions in all engagements.
- Maintain cost transparency in alignment with pricing guidelines.
- Provide training and capacity-building wherever feasible.
Adherence to these guidelines enables technology providers to contribute meaningfully to sustainable social development while upholding the principles of openness and collaboration.
